“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Matthew 6:26
Happy Friday, everyone! It’s going to be a beautiful winter day here in Central Texas. I will definitely take advantage of the 75-degree temperature today.
As I step outside onto the patio, I hear doves and a couple of birds singing in grand harmony. In my mind, I believe they are rejoicing over another day they’ve been given.
To my right, I notice the flower beds where new flowers and shrubs were planted after the ice /snow/frigid temperatures last February. To my dismay, the previous ones were totally wiped out and we had to start over. I notice grass that’s been planted over the bald spots caused by destructive grub worms. I see such potential in all of these.
Since we are in wintertime right now, it remains to be seen if the shrubs, flowers, and grass will continue to do well when springtime comes. If they are to flourish, I will need to water them regularly, feed them the right type of plant food, and give them a little extra TLC. That requires action on my part. I will do my best.
Today, I’m thankful for the reminder that God has made Himself known in nature, bringing encouragement through the song of a bird.
I am also reminded that as a Christian, I must regularly find my spiritual nourishment from God’s Holy Word.
I must be watchful that I don’t allow the “grub worms” of sin into my life. Those will come in many forms and are sneaky distractions away from where my focus should be.
Our Heavenly Father will shelter us from anything that would pose harm to our walk with Jesus. May we always be aware of His presence in our lives. May we remember that He is always as close as the mention of His name.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for this beautiful day that gives us pause to remember where our hope and security is found. It’s in You, and You alone. Thank You for the beauty that is all around us. Help us to look for Your hand among our surroundings. What a comfort it is to know that You are always by our side. Thank you for reminders of our need to feed upon Your Holy Word so that we will be able to regularly share the joy You give us. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
