“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
In life, there are many things we’ll never understand. We’ve all got questions. While we cannot fully know the mind of God, we are often able to see Him working. At times, He does give us glimpses of understanding. But when we don’t have the answers, we must keep walking forward, trusting the words of Romans 8:28.
Two songs prompted me to write this little post—Farther Along and Until Then. I’ve shared a little of each one. I used to hear my daddy singing Farther Along when I was but a young girl. Now that I’m older, I realize even more, the importance of trusting God through every challenge, every trial, and every battle that I may face. And, I truly see the importance of living in the sunshine. Our days are numbered and I don’t want to waste any of the time that I am given.
Friend, if you’re currently going through a trying time, please remember that you don’t have to have all of the answers. Jesus has each and every situation in your life covered. He has walked the road before you and He will lead you safely through. Trust Him.
Remember, this world is not our final home. We are just passing through. While we are here, let’s give God our best and let Him take care of the things we weren’t meant to fully understand. One day, we will see how He has sheltered and cared for us during life’s greatest moments. And, we’ll see that our trials have served to only make us strong. Farther along, we’ll know all about it.
Farther Along
Tempted and tried we’re oft’ made to wonder
Why it should be thus all the day long;
While there are others living about us,
Never molested, though in the wrong.
Chorus: Farther along we’ll know all about it,
Farther along we’ll understand why;
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
We’ll understand it all by and by.
Often I wonder why I must journey
Over a road so rugged and steep;
While there are others living in comfort,
While with the lost I labor and weep.
Chorus: Farther along we’ll know all about it,
Farther along we’ll understand why;
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
We’ll understand it all by and by.
When we see Jesus coming in glory;
When He comes from His home in the sky;
Then we shall meet Him in that bright mansion.
We’ll understand it all by and by.
Chorus: Farther along we’ll know all about it,
Farther along we’ll understand why;
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
We’ll understand it all by and by.

Until Then
My heart can sing when I pause to remember
A heartache here is but a stepping stone
Along a trail that’s winding always upward,
This troubled world is not my final home.
Chorus:
But until then my heart will go on singing, Until then with joy I’ll carry on,
Until the day my eyes behold the city,
Until the day God calls me home.
