“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
And saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18
Sometimes there seems to be no relief from the broken world in which are living–to our own individual brokenness that comes as a result of life’s experiences. Our hearts often feel broken as a result of loss, grief, sin, relationships, abuse, disappointments, discouragement, rejection, and on and on. Honestly, there are so many types of brokenness and I’d imagine there are more people than we’d suspect walking around not knowing which way to turn because of it.
If you’re human, you’ve experienced some type of brokenness during your lifetime. But…..there is Good News! Being broken before God is like unto a healing balm. This is the place where we find the answer to our broken lives. Our Heavenly Father is so very good to take us right where we are and to heal every broken part of our life!!
Below is a poem I wrote about brokenness on January 31, 2021 after reading Psalm 31:7” I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love, because you have seen my affliction; you have known the distress of my soul.” In some ways, it was my heart crying out to the Lord for myself and others. I hope it will encourage you today. And, I pray that God’s timing for me to include it in this writing, is just right for whatever your need is today.
Broken Lives
When brokenness strikes like a thief in the night,
Intent on destroying our peace and Your light,
When these moments come, Lord, what do we do?
Do we freely give up or soldier on through?
Of course I know what the answer will be,
For Your help alone, Lord, is all that I see.
The perfect solution is looking to You,
To give us Your strength, to fill us anew.
Another day, Lord, You’ll give us to live,
To wait here content as humbly we give
All that we are though imperfect we be
Your love and forgiveness is all that You see.
The hard times, the good times, we place in Your care
Deep from our heart, the sorrows we bear.
Those things we can’t fix, Lord,
We give them to you
To help us, to heal us, to carry us through.
Although we can’t see the answers so clearly
We’re held by the One who loves us so dearly.
This assurance we have that Jesus is real
For deep in our hearts His peace we do feel.
