“The real strength of faith is not found in what we have to muster up in and of ourselves, but it’s Christ who will take what little faith we have and turn it into something powerful.” Max Lucado
“For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20
“And he said to them, “Do not be afraid; only believe.” Mark 5:36b
This morning, I watched a two-minute video of Max Lucado’s recent visit to Israel, in the area called Capernaum. Standing by the Sea of Galilee, Max was surrounded by mustard seed plants which were growing along the shoreline.
When instructing His disciples, Jesus often used mustard seeds to illustrate faith. In the Scriptures I’ve shared, He tells us that if we have even that little amount of faith, through Him, we can do great things. He also tells us not to be afraid, but only believe. Only believe. Simple faith. As small as a mustard seed. That’s all it takes. Even though small, He then has something to work with.
How strong is your faith today? To be sure, these days in which we are living are not for the faint of heart. Evil abounds and seems to be more prevalent as each day goes forward. Our hearts break for the pain being inflicted onto innocent men, women, boys, and girls. We wonder if things will ever get any better. I wish I could offer an instant fix, but I can’t. I can, however, offer HOPE and do my best to encourage believers to stay strong in their faith! And to remind us to pray for those who have not yet made the decision to believe.
Today, if you feel that your faith is small, or if you walk in fear of all that’s going on in our world, take heart. Jesus specializes in giving renewed hope to those who are weary and weak in their faith. Take what faith you have, if only a little, and let Him guide and comfort you. Rest in His promises and be assured that you do not walk this road alone. He has not, nor will He ever, leave you.
The Good News today is that our faith is never too small in God’s sight. He will take what little we have and multiply it, giving us strength not found on our own. He will build in us a lasting spiritual foundation that nothing will ever destroy. I sure am thankful that He loves us that much!
While writing this post, I was reminded of a song (of course). I hope the lyrics comfort you as much as they did me.
“Little Is Much When God Is In It”
Larry Ford
In the harvest field now ripened
There’s a work for all to do
Hark! the Master’s voice is calling
To the harvest calling you
Refrain:
Little is much when God is in it!
Labor not for wealth or fame
There’s a crown, and you can win it
If you go in Jesus’ name
Does the place you’re called to labor
Seem so small and little known?
It is great if God is in it
For He’ll not forsake His own
Refrain:
Little is much when God is in it!
Labor not for wealth or fame
There’s a crown, and you can win it
If you go in Jesus’ name
And when the conflict has ended
And our race on earth is run
He will say, if you’ve been faithful
“Welcome home, My child—well done!”
Refrain:
Little is much when God is in it!
Labor not for wealth or fame
There’s a crown, and you can win it
If you go in Jesus’ name
