“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8
Having just watched the morning news on TV, it is evident that what we hear each day could get downright depressing, if we let it! I am reminded of a news report some years ago where many people had fled the city of Rome, Italy because someone had predicted a great earthquake on that date. As human as we are, and with a tendency to be fearful and cautious, might we all be tempted to flee if such a prediction were given for our city?
Today, there is Good News for those who are searching for something other than the bad news of the day! Jesus said, “I have told you these things that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” John 16:33 Jesus is the One in whom we can believe. He comforts us in times of uncertainty. He always provides for our needs. Our faith and trust in Him brings the stability, security, and peace that we need in order to get through the days in which we are living. Because of who He is, we need not fear these perilous times. As always, God has a better plan for us than our fear and uncertainty!
Through Christ, we have been given the freedom and authority to share this Good News with those who are looking for answers. Today, be aware that you might be the catalyst God wants to use to encourage others who are in need of finding an anecdote for the bad news of the day.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, there is so much bad news these days. If we focus on what we are hearing via mainstream news outlets, or if we take to heart all that bombards us on social media, we will become very anxious and discouraged. We take comfort in knowing that You are bigger than any storm we are going through, and that you will lead us safely through each perilous step. Help us to lean on You with all that is within us, knowing we will never be alone. This I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
