“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
Are you currently experiencing any storms in your life? If you aren’t, you will be. Now, that is really encouraging, right? Well, Scripture is clear that trouble and trials will be a part of our life.
My former pastor who is now retired, once said that every person we meet is either going through difficulties, coming out of difficulties, or about to go into difficulties. During those seasons of despair, we are to stand firm in our faith! And we are to support one another.
I Cor. 6:13 tells us how to handle these difficult times: “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.”
Through experience, I know that we must continue to stand firm in God’s Word. We are to remember His promises. I am reminded of the old hymn I sang as a child, called “Standing on the Promises”.
Dear friends, there is activity as our Heavenly Father works in our lives, even though sometimes, we may not “feel” or “see” that activity. We should never doubt that He has our best interest at heart, even though we may not understand. We can’t see the BIG picture. I’m talking BIG picture–one that we cannot comprehend. How do we resolve this in our minds? I think we must adopt a childlike faith that says, “No matter what, I trust you God.” “Whatever it is that you are doing, I trust you.” And we must hold firm to that, going forward each day, listening for the still small voice who leads us. That is enough to bring us peace and joy and to help us get through the storms of life.
When you grow discouraged and weary or want to quit, I pray that you will go to the Lord with your burdens. Stay in His Word holding on to the many promises He gives that bring hope and strength. Then pray that He will lead you to trusted Christians who will encourage you, pray with you, and walk with you through all seasons of your life.
Prayer: Dear God, we love You, praise You, and honor You. Thank You for being the constant source of our strength. Thank You for giving us everything we need to make it through the storms of this life, knowing that one day You will make everything right. Help us to trust You when life gets hard. This we pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
