“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:21-23
Friends, let me tell you—it is HOT in Texas! Over the past few weeks we’ve had triple digit temperatures every day! On one given day, the high temperature was reported as 110 degrees at one of the two reporting stations in Austin! The other station recorded a much cooler temperature of 106! I know we are all thankful for air conditioning right about now.
When I was growing up in East Texas, we didn’t have any air conditioning. I can still remember those sleepless, hot summer nights. To make it worse, if possible, there were always a few mosquitoes flying around in the dark. We children knew they’d be finding us before the morning light. Thankfully, we survived in spite of the less than desired conditions. Fond memories now, but at the time, we didn’t see things quite that way.
In spite of my childhood memories of less than perfect weather conditions, or my present-day existence in the heat of a Central Texas summer, today is a brand new day! This day was ushered in by none other than our Heavenly Father, Himself—God Almighty, the Creator of the universe and each one of us. And I’m so thankful that He saw fit to give us a beautiful, sunny, hot day.
I hope that each of you will begin this new day by giving our Heavenly Father a personal invitation to be active in your life; that you will seek His guidance as your day progresses; and that you will share His love with those whom you meet in the daily traffic lanes of your life. May today be one that finds you serving Him in all ways. He is ever faithful to shower us with His love and mercy as a new day dawns, and He is always faithful in giving us yet another opportunity to experience a new day.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Creator of the universe, we acknowledge that You are all-powerful, all-knowing, and ever-present. Thank You for each new day. Some may be do-overs, but in Your love, grace, and mercy, You allow us to begin again and again. We thank You for showing us how faithful You are through the many blessings that You bestow on us. Help us to honor You with our time and talents while here on earth; to tell others how our lives have been changed by a relationship with Jesus Christ; and how they, too, can experience eternal salvation by placing their faith and trust in You. We love You and we look forward to whatever today holds, for we know it has been fashioned by Your loving hands. Give us Your wisdom and guidance in all things. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.
