“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6
While it’s a nice day in my little corner of the world, there is another beautiful place I read about recently and wanted to share some fascinating facts that I learned, along with a spiritual application.
Have you ever heard of the Cave of Crystals? Neither had I until recently.
The Cave of Crystals lies hidden 980 feet beneath the Naica Mine, which is located in the Chihuahua Desert in Mexico. According to all accounts, it is both a magical and a deadly place. Temperatures inside the cave can soar to 136 degrees with 90-99 percent humidity. Without the protection of a special suit, anyone who goes in will die within 10 minutes. Pretty sobering, huh?
Inside the cavern, which is the size of a football field, enormous towers of sparkling, white gypsum crystals sprout like icicles from the walls, floor, and ceiling—making it look like a real-world ice palace. These stunning works of God’s creation were made slowly over many years by water dripping down or flowing into the cave. There is a whole lot more scientific information, but that is not where I am headed right now.
Friends, just like the Cave of Crystals and many other spectacular places where we can see His hand at work, God also wants to create even more beautiful and stunning work in us. Day by day, moment by moment, experience by experience, God is forming and shaping our hearts to look just like His. It is a work that takes time—really all of our lives. Sometimes we become impatient and want Him to do the work in us all at once. But that is not how He works.
Today, let’s rejoice because God promises to keep working on us until we are made perfect in Heaven. I thought of the song below and the ways my Good, Good Father continues to do His work in me and you.
He’s Still Working on Me, Joel Hemphill
He’s still working on me,
To make me what I need to be.
It took him just a week to make the moon and stars,
The sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars.
How loving and patient He must be,
Cause He’s still workin’ on me.
There really ought to be a sign upon my heart,
Don’t judge him yet, there’s unfinished part.
But I’ll be better just according to His plan,
Fashioned by the Master’s loving hands.
He’s still working on me,
To make me what I need to be.
It took him just a week to make the moon and stars,
The sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars.
How loving and patient He must be,
Cause He’s still workin’ on me.
In the mirror of His word reflections that I see,
Makes me wonder why He never gave up on me.
But He loves me as I am and helps me when I pray,
Remember He’s the potter, I’m the clay.
He’s still working on me,
To make me what I need to be.
It took him just a week to make the moon and stars,
The sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars.
How loving and patient He must be,
Cause He’s still workin’ on me.
Once again, thanks for sharing this message. I read them every day, but sometimes I just have to let you know that the message hit home!
