The old hymns have always lifted my soul
Like “Precious Memories” and “Never Grow Old”
Mere children we were when we learned how to sing
These songs of great meaning forever to bring
Our activities ceased when Daddy would call
To Mother and children, “Please come one and all.
Stop what you’re doing and gather around
Our fine-tuned piano with its beautiful sound.”
Both mother and dad played piano by ear
Happy times for us children, it was special to hear
We’d sing line by line those songs that we loved
Raising our voices to heaven above
Better a song will minister to me
Than a Sunday sermon whose points total three
I do love my Pastor, a powerful preacher
Just sayin’ that music is one of my teachers
These timeless old hymns down through the ages
Have nourished our souls with each of their pages
How thankful we are to have been given this gift
Of these anointed old hymns….for our souls they do lift
