“There is no ideal place for us to serve God except the place He sets us down.”
Truth For Life Devotional, Charles Spurgeon/Alistair Begg
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
I really connected with the above quote. So many times, I’ve felt inadequate to serve the Lord in the manner to which He was calling. I’ve felt insignificant in my little corner of the world. If I’m honest, that would be more often than not. The truth is, I am inadequate and I am insignificant when it comes to things of a spiritual nature. BUT……when I daily empty myself of the fear and self-doubt that Satan likes to hurl at me, and when I put on the armor of God, then I am ready for the spiritual task ahead.
Wherever you are in your walk of faith, God wants to use you. He will equip you specifically for the assignment He has for you. As Henry Blackerby wrote in the “Experiencing God” study that I participated in years ago, “He will drop you in the middle of where He is working.” You may not think you are capable, but rest assured, with His help, you are! He will never turn away one who is desirous of serving Him.
We are Christ’s ambassadors, and we’re the only means He has here on earth to spread the Good News. He will gladly use us in our place of influence, both for our good and His glory! I’m so thankful that He never gives up on us. He will take care of the details. We only have to be willing.
Prayer: Dear Father, thank You for this day. As I listen to the birds singing, I sense they are ushering in this beautiful, hot summer morning, I am reminded that You are always near—even as close as the beat of our heart. Thank You for equipping us with strength and wisdom so that we are able to represent You in a manner that is pleasing to You. When feelings of our own inadequacy creep in, I pray that You will snuff out those flames of the enemies arrows quickly. Instead, replace them with confidence that through You we can do all things. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.
We loved Henry Blackaby’s “Experiencing God.” We we’re going through that study at the point when my dad passed away. His dad had always said that any Blackerby, Balckaby, Blackorby, etc had to be related. Then my cousin, who was a SBC missionary to Uganda for many years, said that Henry Blackaby came to visit he mission work there. When my cousin and his wife went to meet the plane, my cousin’s wife gasped as he stepped off the plane and said, “he looks just like your uncle!” He doesn’t exactly, but there does seem to be some family resemblance. Even Henry Blackaby said they were probably distantly related, in spite of him being from Canada.
I pray I will always be aware of what God wants me to do where He drops me. I haven’t always recognized that until afterwards.
How good that your cousin was able to meet Henry Blackaby. The Experiencing God lessons truly helped me grow in my faith so much. When I was writing this to post, I saw an advertisement from Lifeway about the revised version of Experiencing God. Had some gift cards that had just been sitting around, so I ordered the DVD, workbook, and teacher guide. I am hoping to go through it again, with an invitation to some neighbors and other family members to participate. Prayers that I can carve out that time as I have so many projects I want to get done before I’m too old! 😊 Like you, I haven’t always recognized or followed through when He wanted my assistance, but I continue to pray daily that I’ll not get too busy to recognize every single opportunity He is giving me to make a difference in someone else’s life. God bless you, my friend. I always appreciate your wise words and encouragement.
