“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day.” Psalms 91:1-5 ESV
“Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That’s why we call it the present.” Author unknown
When I saw the above picture, I also thought of the quote I’ve included. Although the authorship is uncertain, it has relevance to our lives.
Yesterday is indeed history. I wish I had known back then what I know now. But life doesn’t work that way. We learn from our experiences and past mistakes. We can actually grow from the past. If we allow God to do His good work in us, to make and mold us more into the image of Christ, then we will come out a winner for Him despite our past mistakes and regrets. We are blessed that He is patient with us.
The past can also help us see how God was working through the good times, hard times, grief, and sorrow. It can also remind us how far we’ve come on life’s journey. I’m thankful for memories of the past, both good and those I’d rather not have, for they remind me to continue allowing God to be in charge of my life as He clears the path ahead for me.
As Earth residents, we will experience joy and pain over our lifetimes, but we always have hope for the future. If you are God’s child, you will be okay regardless of what comes your way. Take that assurance into your heart today as you live in the present, not the past or the future. Once you do, the world will be a much brighter place.
We do not know what tomorrow will bring, but through our faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, we can rest on His promises that there is no need to fear or be anxious. Tomorrow will take care of itself. We have been given this day and the opportunity to make a difference for the Kingdom of God. Wherever you are, you can serve Him from your corner of the world in ways He has designed specifically for you. He will help you to carry His Good News today and in the future. That’s one thing you can count on.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we honor You today. We humbly express our gratitude for Your never-ending grace, mercy, and forgiveness. We are saved for eternity when we sincerely ask Jesus Christ to be our Lord and Savior. However, our walk with Jesus is a lifetime journey with highs and lows, joys and sorrows, spiritual mountains and valleys. But in all of this, You are with us. Thank You for being the potter of our lives—for molding and making us into more of the image of Jesus. Thank you for being so patient when we wander in our own direction. Help us to always seek what you want first and foremost. Lead us and guide us. This is my fervent prayer today. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
