“Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:22
Are you burdened today? Do you feel the weight of those burdens on your shoulder? I have found the solution to ridding myself of the unnecessary weight of things I cannot control. It’s in giving everything to Jesus, including my heavy backpack of burdens and sorrows. He came that we might have abundant life, and we can’t live abundantly if we are carrying around a sack full of heartaches, regrets, and worries.
Over the years, I have given many a burden to the Lord and He has yet to disappoint me. I have total assurance that He hears, listens, and answers—sometimes in ways I don’t understand, but I trust. I simply believe and trust.
Sometimes it’s not easy to let go of our burdens, but it is the right thing to do. With God’s help, we will always feel the weight being removed when we lay our cares at the foot of the Cross. Our shoulders will feel lighter and our hearts will be made brighter.
Why not give Him your burdens today. Take them to the Cross of Jesus and leave them there. As the hymn below says, “If you trust and never doubt, He will surely bring you out. Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.”
Leave It There
Charles A. Tindley, 1916
If the world from you withhold of its silver and its gold,
And you have to get along with meager fare,
Just remember, in His Word, how He feeds the little bird—
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
Refrain:
Leave it there, leave it there,
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there;
If you trust and never doubt, He will surely bring you out—
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
If your body suffers pain and your health you can’t regain,
And your soul is almost sinking in despair,
Jesus knows the pain you feel, He can save and He can heal
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
When your enemies assail and your heart begins to fail,
Don’t forget that God in Heaven answers prayer;
He will make a way for you and will lead you safely through
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
When your youthful days are gone and old age is stealing on,
And your body bends beneath the weight of care;
He will never leave you then, He’ll go with you to the end—
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
Refrain:
Leave it there, leave it there,
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there;
If you trust and never doubt, He will surely bring you out—
Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.
Prayer: Dear God, Your power is matchless, and Your ways are right. You are absolute truth. Thank you for the ability to take our burdens to You. We could not get through this world of sin and sorrow were it not for You adopting us to be Your beloved children. Thank You for Jesus! Without Him I would be nothing and would be weighted down with burdens, sorrows, grief, sin, and guilt. But You are a wonder-working God! You change us from the inside out. Thank You for such love and care unlike anything we’ve ever experienced. Help us to serve You all the days of our life, so that we won’t ever be restrained from our heavy loads. Thank You for this glorious day and help us to see You all around us, because You are definitely there. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.
